Oral history honours your service and educates the future

"Oral sources tell us not just what people did, but what they wanted to do, what they believed they were doing and what they now think they did.” Alesandro Portelli

I hear many veterans say they could write a book about their experiences. A few get to write books while the vast majority of us don't have the time, talent or wherewithal to write our book. But everyone can tell stories about what they did, what they experienced and their reflections on what they think they did. This is where I come in, I can guide you through the oral history process and help you tell your story. It'll be your voice, your story and your legacy.

I especially want to record the voices of women and their experiences as wives and/or as Veterans in their own right. There are very few women's voices recorded from the past and far too many stories go untold. I like to help address that for the current and future generations.

What's the difference between the Podcast and an Oral History?    The Podcast is a like a collection of short stories, an Oral History is more like a book.

Recordings of Oral History Interviews will be deposited with either the Western Australia Military Digital Library or Virtual War Memorial Australia (links below). Both repositories require copyright release forms.

In addition to the audio recording you are encouraged to upload photos and documents relating to your service.  I can help put you in touch with the volunteers who manage  these sites.

Western Australian Military Digital Library

their words.....their stories

The Western Australian Military Digital Library showcases the personal military papers, treasured keepsakes and family stories that have a connection to Western Australia

WAMDL

Virtual War Memorial Australia

Virtual War Memorial Australia is an outstanding commemorative collection, purpose built to honour the personal experiences of all those who have served the nation in times of conflict, from the Boer War through to Afghanistan. It pays special honour to those who lost their lives as a result of their service and equally honours those who returned, forever changed

VWMA

Records of Service

In order for your Oral History Interview to be uploaded to either the WAMDL or VWMA you'll need to be able to prove your bona fides.  I'll ask you to please provide a copy of your Record of Service and this will form an important part of your story. if you don't have a copy you can request it via the link below
